“THE  COLOR  OF  THE WIND”

English Channel.  Sunny day, but the water and sky have a nuance, cold, “metallic.”
On the horizon a group of white hulls sleek design and tapered, sail the sea with the trend of the dolphins when they run on the water.
The whites of their hulls makes the scene even colder.
Then, suddenly, an explosion of colors: as if by magic, for a magical and mysterious order, open up, one after another, spinnakers that “shouting their colors” to the gulls and waves.
It ‘a wonderful show for everyone, that fascinates and makes you follow up with more enthusiasm crews busy for another “ADMIRAL’S CUP”, the “Admiral’s Cup”, the most prestigious, ancient and refined offshore yacht race .
On the ground, in Cowes, Isle of Wight, the English Lords follow, within the walls of the ROYAL YACHT CLUB castle, the progress of the race.
Clothes “official uniform”, the blue blazer, with the inevitable brass buttons, the Lords Jurors touch with their eyes, through large binoculars, the beautiful siluettes of yachts in the race.
It ‘an unforgettable scene!
It seems to follow a great concert, a large orchestra with all its sections of instrumentalists, the choir, the director, work
Even as a sea fans are enraptured by its beauty.
Unfortunately today spinnakers not “dress” more colors than once, but the “logo” of the various corporations that sponsor sailing regattas.
But l ‘ “Admiral’s Cup” continues to be for lovers of the sea, perhaps more naive ones, the real sailing regatta, more genuine.
Because the passion of sailing, sea, through all human tribes and all socio-economic strata.
In the evening, in the pubs of Cowes, you meet at the same table, the German aristocrat with the New Zealand hub, arguing passionately of knots and sails with super American manager and a humble French sailor.
A real “Tower of Babel”: languages, dialects, slangs, T-shirts, badges, World Wide, to see even those who drains more beer and wishky!
Men with faces and hands carved by the sun and salt, leave for a week, their normal life routines and are all ‘Isle of Wight to experience the “Cowes Week”:
sea, sailing and colors!

“ I COLORI DEL VENTO “

Canale della Manica. Giornata solare ma l’ acqua ed il cielo hanno una sfumatura, fredda, “metallica”. All’orizzonte un gruppo di bianchi scafi dalla linea elegante e affusolata, solcano il mare con l’andamento dei delfini quando corrono a pelo d’acqua. Il bianco dei loro scafi rende la scena ancora più fredda. Poi, improvvisamente, è un’esplosione di colori : come d’incanto, per un magico e misterioso ordine, si aprono, uno dopo l’altro, gli spinnaker che “urlano i loro colori” ai gabbiani e alle onde. E’ uno spettacolo meraviglioso per tutti, che affascina ed incita a seguire con più entusiasmo gli equipaggi impegnati per un’altra “ADMIRAL’S CUP”, la “COPPA dell’AMMIRAGLIO”, la più prestigiosa, antica e raffinata gara di yacht d’altura. A terra, a Cowes, nell’Isola di Wight, i Lords inglesi seguono, dentro le mura del castello dello ROYAL YACHT CLUB, l’andamento della gara. Vestiti della “divisa ufficiale”, il blazer blu, dotato degli immancabili bottoni d’ottone, i Lords Giurati sfiorano con il loro sguardo, attraverso grandi binocoli, le stupende siluettes degli yachts in corsa. E’ una scena indimenticabile ! Sembra di seguire un grande concerto, una grande orchestra con tutte le sue sezioni di strumentisti, il coro, il direttore, all’opera. Anche i meno appassionati di mare, sono rapiti da tanta bellezza. Purtroppo oggi gli spinnaker non “vestono” più i colori di una volta, ma i “logo” delle varie multinazionali che sponsorizzano le regate veliche. Ma l’ “Admiral’s Cup” continua ad essere per gli appassionati di mare, quelli forse più naives, la regata velica più vera, più genuina.  Perché la passione della vela, del mare, attraversa tutte le tribù umane e tutti gli strati socio-economici. La sera, nei pubs di Cowes, si incontra allo stesso tavolo, l’aristocratico tedesco con il mozzo neozelandese, che discutono animatamente di nodi e velatura con il super manager americano ed un umile marinaio francese. Una vera “Torre di Babele”: linguaggi, idiomi, slangs, magliette, distintivi, da tutto il Mondo, per vedere anche chi scola più birra e wishky ! Uomini con visi e mani scolpiti dal sole e dalla salsedine, abbandonano, per una settimana, la loro normale routine di vita e vengono all’ Isola di Wight per vivere la “Cowes Week” : mare, vela e colori!

Admiral’s Cup History :

The Admiral’s Cup is an international yachting regatta. For many years it was known as the unofficial world championship of offshore racing. The Admiral’s Cup regatta was started in 1957 and was normally a biennial event (occurring in odd-numbered years) which was competed for between national teams. However the event was not staged in 2001 and was last held in 2003. It was cancelled at short notice in 2005. The 2003 event did not follow the normal format and allowed entries from any yacht club affiliated to a national authority, thus allowing the possibility of several teams per country. The regatta was based at Cowes on the Isle of Wight off southern England and was organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

L’Admiral’s Cup era una regata di imbarcazioni a vela di diverso tipo che si disputava in Gran Bretagna. La prima edizione venne disputata nel 1957 ed aveva frequenza biennale disputandosi di norma negli anni dispari. Comunque non è stata disputata negli anni 2001 e 2005 e si ritiene che abbia avuto termine con l’edizione del 2003. La partenza e l’arrivo avvenivano al largo del porto di Cowes, sull’Isola di Wight situata al largo delle coste meridionali dell’Inghilterra, ed era organizzata dal Royal Ocean Racing Club.
