The inauguration of the exhibition ‘Portraits Feminine’ photographer Graziano Villa is scheduled for Thursday, April 9, in Piazzale Baiamonti, 4 in Milan. The exhibition, hosted by the Yacht Club Milano, will be open to the public from April 9 to May 27, every day from 21.00 to 23.00.
Milan, April 2, 2009 – In the scenario of the Yacht Club Milano, exhibits his shots Graziano Villa, of Genoese origin photographer who began his career with photojournalism, successively dealing with fashion and still life to arrive, finally, to portraiture.
Subject of the exhibition, “Portraits Feminine”, familiar faces of famous women of Italian and international scene. She is the only star of this exhibition, in which Villa offers its subjects in all their spontaneity taking in these figures of women, well known and famous each in its own sphere, those qualities of character which made them the success icons . In these shots the public persona, then, is wisely mixed with the private sector, women managers, singers, educated intellectuals, through the portrait, in their innermost essence, the one that has made their most famous statement.

Soggetto della mostra, “Ritratti al Femminile”, noti volti di donne famose del panorama italiano e internazionale. Circa 30 scatti che spaziano da Margherita Agnelli, Ella Fitzgerald, Carol Alt, Melba Ruffo di Calabria, Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti, Jetsum Pema (sorella del Dali Lama) e tante altre provenienti dal mondo dello spettacolo, della politica, della cultura e dell’industria.

La donna è l’unica protagonista di questa rassegna, in cui Villa propone i suoi soggetti in tutta la loro spontaneità cogliendo in queste figure di donne, così conosciute e famose ciascuna nel proprio ambito, quelle peculiarità caratteriali che le hanno rese delle icone di successo. In questi scatti il personaggio pubblico, quindi, viene sapientemente mischiato con quello privato, donne manager, cantanti, intellettuali colte, attraverso il ritratto, nella loro essenza più intima, quella che ha decretato la loro più nota affermazione.

“Con questi ritratti ho voluto cogliere quella sfida intrinseca – afferma Graziano Villa – che si crea tra il “ritrattista” e il personaggio che si fa ritrarre, che consiste nel saper cogliere quei lineamenti, quelle espressioni e quelle pose che hanno reso queste donne uniche nel loro ambito e nell’ immortalare tutte queste loro caratteristiche in un unico scatto.”

Why “… SAILING …” ? Because many times we said or heard words like “… the Sea of Life …”, “… the ‘Ocean of Existence …”, and then is it not appropriate to say “… Navigating the Sea of Life… “when are we crossing our existences ?
Are we or not the “sailors” when we are facing our “sea of problems” ?
Cross the “Ocean of’ Existence” is not very different from face a real sea route.
We’re the skipper of our lives and inside of our “existential shells” we take routes that intersect other skippers on other shells.
That’s what Graziano Villa made !
His “shell”, his boat was his camera and he, as a good skipper, led her through “different oceans”, several fields of photography.
Among these, the one that involved him much more, in which he “sailed the most far and wide”, undoubtedly, it’s the portrait field.
For over twenty years he created portraits of Culture, Economy, Finance, Politics, of Visual Arts Personalities, facing the “stormy” situation many times !
It’s not easy to manage Captains of Industry, Helmsmen of Art and put them on a common route and row together to get a good result: a beautiful portrait!
They are not easy people. They haven’t a lot of time and are not very inclined to pose in front of a camera lens.
Despite these “signs of the storm,” Graziano Villa has faced and made hundreds of portraits always managing the situation to contextualize the featured character, to give effect, creating an image that would be exactly the personality and its function.
Without forgetting the rules of the  “photos container”: the Magazine.
Essentially, to paraphrase the sailor jargon, Villa with its “ship-magazine”, brought the “castaway-personalities” to touch the ground.
Why the ” MILAN YACHT CLUB ” as the place of his exhibition ?
Because, as the members of the YCM, navigators and sailors with the passion of the Sea, also Graziano Villa and many of his personalities, have a passion for challenges.
A boat, a good crew, a commander, they must be always ready for the unexpected in the everyday life of their professions.
It is not a coincidence that many of them are excellent navigators.
So, which better context in which organizing the exhibition of his portraits if not “YACHT
CLUB MILAN ” where we have Captains of Industry and Vessels?

“…NAVIGANDO…” – attraverso oceani diversi –

Perché “…NAVIGANDO…”, perché molte volte abbiamo detto o sentito frasi come “…il Mare della Vita…”, “…l’ Oceano dell’Esistenza…”, e allora non è forse appropriato dire “…Navigando il Mare della Vita..” quando attraversiamo la nostra Esistenza? Non siamo forse dei “Navigatori “ quando affrontiamo un “mare di problemi” ?  Attraversare “l’ Oceano dell’ Esistenza” non è molto diverso dall’ affrontare una vera rotta marina.  Siamo gli skipper delle nostre vite e sui nostri “gusci esistenziali” prendiamo rotte che intersecano altri skipper su altri gusci.  Graziano Villa questo ha fatto !  Il suo “guscio”, la sua barca è stata la macchina fotografica e lui, da buon skipper, l’ha condotta attraverso “diversi oceani”, diversi settori della fotografia.  Tra questi, quello che più lo ha coinvolto, in cui ha “navigato più in lungo e in largo”, è senz’altro il Ritratto.  Per più di vent’anni ha realizzato Ritratti di Personaggi della Cultura, dell’Economia, Finanza, Politica, delle Arti figurative affrontando anche situazione “burrascose” !  Non è per niente facile dirigere Capitani d’Industria, Timonieri dell’ Arte per metterli su una comune rotta e remare insieme per ottenere un ottimo risultato : un bel Ritratto !  Non sono persone facili. Non hanno molto tempo e non sono molto inclini a posare davanti ad un obiettivo fotografico.  Nonostante queste “avvisaglie di tempesta”, Graziano Villa ha affrontato e realizzato centinaia di Ritratti riuscendo sempre a contestualizzare il Personaggio di turno, a dare senso, attraverso la creazione di un’immagine che ne rendesse esattamente la personalità e la sua funzione.  Senza dimenticare l’esigenze del “contenitore della foto/messaggio” : la Rivista.  In sostanza, per parafrasare il gergo marinaresco, con la sua “nave/rivista” ha portato il “personaggio/naufrago” di turno, a toccare terra.  Perché lo “YACHT CLUB MILANO” come sede della sua Mostra?  Perché, come i Soci dello YCM, Navigatori con la passione del Mare, anche Graziano Villa e molti dei suoi Personaggi, hanno la passione per le sfide. Una barca, un buon equipaggio, un comandante, devono essere sempre pronti ad affrontare gli imprevisti nella quotidianità dello loro professioni.  Non a caso molti di loro sono eccellenti Navigatori.  Allora, quale contesto migliore dove realizzare la Mostra dei suoi Ritratti se non lo “YACHT CLUB di MILANO” dove abbiamo Capitani d’ Industria e di Vascelli?
